In the paper an image recognition system was described. This system can be used together with an industrial robot to perform a montage operation of integrated circuits in some electronic device. The main purpose of the vision system is to recognise the integrated circuits basing on the descriptions on their packages. The vision system was realised on a multiprocessor DSP system the Texas Instruments TMS320C80. In the further part of this article all the image processing operations such as image pre-processing, segmentation, feature extraction and image recognition were described in details and the obtained integrated circuits recognition results were also presented.
